The Transnistrian region has natural gas in pipes that is enough for only a few days, the leader of the Transnistrian administration Vadim Krasnoselsky stated in an interview with the Russian press, IPN reports.

"In a few days, the gas that remained in the pipes will run out. In the absence of gas, we will face serious difficulties," said Vadim Krasnoselski. According to him, every effort is being made to save the people, but the situation remains extremely difficult.

He also said that the coal reserves for the production of electricity at the MGRES plant are enough until February 16-17. The plant can only use anthracite coal, which it has nowhere to take from.

Gas supplies to the Transnistrian region were stopped by Gazprom on January 1. The Russian company invoked the non-payment of a debt of US$709 million, an amount that was not confirmed by Chisinau. More than 51,000 households in the Transnistrian region remained without gas and almost 1,500 apartment blocks have no heat or hot water.

Tiraspol accuses Chisinau of preventing the supply of gas to the Transnistrian region, whose resumption Krasnoselsky promised after returning from a visit paid to Moscow. The national authorities, however, insist that they have never opposed Russian gas reaching the region, under the conditions of the legislation in force.
