The administration of the Transnistrian region has banned pork imports from Ukraine on fears of African swine flu (ASF), the news agency Novyi Region reported. “For the first time in almost 50 years, real cores of the African swine flu virus were found in Ukraine's Zaporozhye oblast. The first official information on the infection was received on August 1. Today we took immediate measures prevent the spread of the ASF to the region”, stated representative of the Tiraspol government Fedot Tsibulsky. According to Tsibulsky, the quarantine status bans the import not only of pork, but also of live pigs, as well as other potential sources of contamination. The ASF is a very dangerous viral disease carried by pigs, the symptoms of which produce fever and extended hemorrhage. According to the international classification of infectious animal diseases, the African swine flu is part of category A, or particularly dangerous diseases. Vulnerable to infection are not only domestic pigs, but the wild ones as well, regardless of their age.
