The risks and threats posed by the Transnistrian regime persist and the constitutional government of Moldova has yet a lot of work to do to overcome them, the deputy head of the commission on national security, defense and public order Alexandru Cimbriciuc has told Info-Prim Neo.
In a closed-door meeting on March 21, the commission asked for information about the recent statements made by the special representative of Tiraspol to Moscow Mihail Bergman from the Security and Information Service (SIS). In an interview, Bergman said that after the former president of the Transnistrian central bank Oxana Ionova was arrested, the politicians in Chisinau, Tiraspol and Moscow became nervous as money had been laundered through that bank.
“We invited a representative of the SIS as we wanted to find out information about Mihail Bergman’s statements. According to the answers we received, Bergman made erroneous assertions,” said Alexandru Cimbriciuc.
SIS vice director Valentin Dediu said after the meeting that he informed the commission about the current situation in the Transnistrian region. “The main goal is to reintegrate the country. We discussed the steps that the constitutional bodies should take to achieve this goal. As to Bergman’s statements, nothing has been confirmed yet. We are yet to verify certain statements, but we are unable to verify all of them,” he stated.
Earlier, unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea asked holding a closed-door sitting of Parliament, where there should be presented a report on the state of affairs in the Transnistrian region.
