Transnistrian plates do not spare drivers from taxes

The Moldovans residing on the right bank of the Nistru, who have Transnistrian license numbers, will pay the same road tax as the drivers with cars registered outside Moldova. But those who live in the Transnistrian region and have Transnistrian license numbers will not pay such a tax, the Ministry of Finance’s spokesman Boris Harea has told Info-Prim Neo. Under the bill approved by the Government, the road tax for three days will be €7, for 30 days – €65, while for 180 days – €380. The tax will be applied from November 1. Boris Harea warned that the drivers can re-register the imported vehicles older than seven only until the end of October. After November 1, they will have to take them out of the country. According to official data, there were about 50,000 cars with foreign license numbers in Moldova at the end of summer. Since July, when the law on the registration of imported vehicles older than seven came into force, a sum of 10 million lei was collected into the state budget from their registration. The bill that provides for the introduction of the road tax on November 1 was approved by the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance, but was rejected by the commission on national security, defense and public order. The bill will become law if it is passed by Parliament. Moldova has signed agreements with the neighboring countries Romania and Ukraine, which save the citizens of these countries from paying road taxes in Moldova and the Moldovans in the two states.
