The official in charge of human rights in the Transnistrian region, Vasilii Kaliko, submitted a report on the mass violation of people’s constitutional rights to remuneration to the Supreme Soviet in Tiraspol for examination, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in the region reports. The report centers on the problems related to the payment of salaries and their non-correspondence to the living standards of the salary earners. According to the Transnistrian Trade Union Federation, the rising prices of the food products and public utilities drove about 50% of the workers of the region into poverty. If the living standards of the population continue to worsen and no measures are taken to stabilize the social-economic situation, the trade unions will resort to such methods as meetings, pickets, protests, strikes. At the same time, at one of the recent sittings of the legislature, the director of the Transnistrian Central Bank Melnik said: “We cannot pay what we should pay, not speaking about salary rises. There is really no use talking about an inflation rate of 12%. If we increase the salaries, we will generate stronger inflation processes. The prices will still inevitably rise”. According to official figures, since the start of this year, the inflation in Transnistria exceeded 10.5%. The economists predict that the projected inflation rate of 12% will be passed rather soon.
