“The peoples of the Moldovan Transnistrian Republic and of the Republic of Moldova cannot co-exist in a single state.” The statement has been made by the Coordinating Council of the NGOs and political parties from Transnistria and was launched on the eve of the trilateral reunion among Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin and Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov in Moscow, Info-Prim-Neo's correspondent in Tiraspol reports. “Generations with opposite and conflicting mentalities and interests have grown for the last 20 years in Transnistria, which is oriented toward the Russian Federation, and in pro-West Moldova,” reads the statement of the council. “The only wish of the Transnistrian population, expressed in the referendums of 1991 and 2006, is to recognize the Transnistrian republic and to develop good neighborhood relationships with Moldova,” the leaders of the organization maintain. The Coordinating Council of the NGOs and political parties from Transnistria opines “other options to settle the tense relations between Moldova and Transnistria are not going to bring to a close this long-lasting conflict.” The council wants to develop the relationships with Moldova on the basis of a cooperation and friendship treaty, which was handed by Igor Smirnov to Vladimir Voronin at their meeting from April 2008. Media write the three officials are to meet in Moscow on March 18 and the Tiraspol leader is already in Russia. The Chisinau presidency has not confirmed Vladimir Voronin's attendance of this reunion.
