The nongovernmental organizations from the Transnistrian region will be liable to fines if they are financed from outside. Dmitri Gavrilov, head of the Tiraspol Information Resources Center “Common Home”, said that according to his information, such a bill is examined by the so-called legislature of the region, IPN reports.

Asked what goals the Transnistrian administration wants to achieve by adopting such a law, Dmitri Gavrilov said they want all the laws to be identical or similar to those of Russia. The Russian authorities have passed such a law this year. It stipulates jail sentences too.

As to the work of the Transnistrian NGOs, Dmitri Gavrilov said the organizations that cooperate or initiate joint projects with those from the right bank of the Nistru are considered ‘traitors’. “This stereotype can be avoided only if Transnistrian civil society changes its attitude towards its colleagues,” said the head of “Common Home”. He also said the people consider that owing to the political tensions between the two banks of the Nistru, communication in the nongovernmental sector is difficult, but this is an erroneous perception.
