Non-governmental organisations based in the Transnistrian region of Moldova are planning to establish a volunteer-based network for social purposes. The network idea took shape at a roundtable meeting themed “Developing Volunteer Initiatives in Transnistria”, which brought together NGOs from Slobozia, Tighina, Camenca and Tiraspol.
Alyona Marcikova, PR manager of the NGO Vzaimodeystvie (Interaction), told Info-Prim Neo that the network is expected to save efforts and resources for transport, training and coordination of volunteers’ activities. In addition, the network will enable the local NGOs to attract more young people from the region in volunteering.
The roundtable meeting had the aim to familiarise its participants with the volunteer work of different organisations, as well as to identify future volunteer initiatives in the Transnistrian region. The seminar also served as an occasion for the Tiraspol-based Centre for Civic Initiative Promotion Rezonans and the Winrock International’s volunteer school to showcase their achievements in the filed and share their experience with the others.
This event has opened a series of roundtable meetings to take place in the course of 2008 as part of the project for the development of the social partnership in fighting trafficking in humans in the region, launched by the NGO Vzaimodeystvie with the support of the International Organisation for Migration Moldova.
