A number of Transnistrian lawmakers who had sat on the first Parliament of Moldova (1990-1994) intend to take part in the April 26 sitting of the legislative body, when the Declaration of Independence is to be restored. Though only 16 of the about 90 Transnistrian MPs voted in favor of adopting the Declaration on August 27, 1991, more persons want to attend the special April 26 sitting, said the head of the Association “Parlamentul 90”, Pantelei Sandulachi. ”I’m glad that the Transnistrian legislators realize the importance of the work done by the first Parliament that was constituted 20 years ago. We try to reestablish the bridge that has burnt for so many years by popular diplomatic ways,” Pantelei Sandulachi stated for Info-Prim Neo. According to Pantelei Sandulachi, the Transnistrian delegation in the first Parliament consisted of representatives of the “Interfront”, an opposition movement that included Igor Smirnov, the leader of the Transnistrian region. “They (the Transnistrian delegates – e.n.) understand that Moldova is a country and they do not have a future in their region. We also intend to arrange a meeting with Igor Smirnov,” he said. The special parliamentary sitting was initially scheduled for April 17, but was then postponed to April 26 - the eve of the day when it will be 20 years of the adoption of the Tricolor. The sitting was also put off because the Parliament did not manage to adopt the legal framework needed to restore the Declaration of Independence. Pantelei Sandulachi said the bill was approved by the Government and is to be discussed by the MPs. The original of the Declaration of Independence burnt during the mass disorder of April 2009.
