The Transnistrian issue should be discussed through lobbyists in the United States Congress. Such opinions were stated in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Doctor of History Ruslan Shevchenco in the program said that besides the Transnistrian conflict, the U.S. Congress should also discuss the assistance needed by the Republic of Moldova in counteracting the economic sanctions imposed by the Russian Federation and in coming closer to the EU.
Specialist in communication and public relations Valentin Balan said it is very important for the Republic of Moldova to be discussed in the U.S. parliament. As long as Moldova’s problems are not raised, these will be solved very slowly, with own forces, but in the period of globalization this is almost impossible. “The creation of this Moldova-U.S. circle of friends with the support of two congressmen-lobbyists is very important because the current geopolitical problem of the Republic of Moldova could be heard and solved faster,” stated Valentin Balan.
Mihail Bagas, chairman of the Association of Ukrainians of the Republic of Moldova, noted the problem of the Transnistrian region is also the problem of Ukraine because this has a real war in its east and the enemy is behind it. “Ukraine is interested in helping resolve the Transnistrian dispute,” he said.
International law expert and spokesman for the Democratic Party Vitalie Gamurari said the Republic of Moldova should use the lobbying for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict in the context of the crisis in Ukraine and of the ensuring of security in Romania. The lobby groups that have their own experts will work with political parties in the United States to promote Moldova’s cause. “And this is a first step because the attention of the international community can be thus caught,” he stated.
