The economy minister of Transnistria Elena Chernenko denies that the region is facing a bread crisis as a result of the cut in gas supplies from Russia. She said that the people are groundlessly worried and buy all the bread during two hours after it goes on sale so as to make stores, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in the region reports. “The bakeries have not decreased production levels,” Chernenko said. According to her, the flour existing in the Transnistrian region is sufficient to make bread until January 1, 2010. “The bread cooked in electric ovens is enough for the republic’s necessities,” the Transnistrian minister said. According to Elena Chernenko, the region now produces 80 tonnes of bakery products, as against 73 tonnes in December. The pasta and cans are among the food products that are in great demand in the region in this period.
