The Transnistrian conflict can be settled by the model of the Czech Republic, by delegating extended rights to the regions, without the right to veto yet, said President of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman, who is in Moldova on an official visit. The official had a meeting with Head of Parliament Igor Corman, IPN reports, quoting the legislative body’s press service.

Miloš Zeman said the Czech Republic supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova. “Moldova’s status of neutrality stipulated in the Constitution does not represent an obstacle to the country’s integration into the EU,” he stated, underlining that his country backs Moldova in its European integration efforts.

Igor Corman said the path to the EU is complex and long, but the measures taken are aimed at modernizing the country. “We would like the Transnistrian region to also be involved in the Association Agreement. Moldova’s success on the path to European integration represents a solid base for the country’s reunification,” he stated.

In another development, the Speaker appreciated the fact that the Czech Republic is the largest importer of Moldovan wine in the EU. He underlined that exports of fruit and vegetables and other products to this country can be also increased.

Igor Corman and Miloš Zeman welcomed the organization of the business forum “Moldova – the Czech Republic” in Chisinau, stressing the importance of diversifying the Moldovan-Czech commercial-economic and investment cooperation and developing business partnerships between companies from the two states.
