The Transnistrian department for combating economic crime has focused on the traders that sell their goods for dollars, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in Tiraspol reports. “We see a decline in the number of illegal transactions with foreign currency. Yet, there are unscrupulous persons who consider that they will not be caught and held accountable,” the deputy head of the department Alexandr Merzhuk told a news conference. The domestic appliances and furniture shops usually sell the goods for dollars. “They do so because all the operations performed in foreign currency are not recorded in bookkeeping documents. Consequently, this fiscal evasion leads to budget deficit,” the Transnistrian official said. In March, employees of the Transnistrian department for combating economic crime drew up 3,600 administrative reports and opened 14 legal cases over foreign currency-related offences.
