The Transnistrian conflict could have been solved long ago if there had been political will. But the Moldovan politicians do not want this and build PR on the issue, journalist Valerii Demidetskii stated in the talk show “Friday with Anatolie Golea” on RTR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Valerii Demidetkii said nobody prevented the Moldovan politicians from dealing with this problem, neither Washington, nor Brussels or Moscow. “At the same time, many experts said that if Transnistria hadn’t existed, it would have been invented,” noted the journalist. According to him, the politicians promote their image based on the Transnistrian conflict settlement.

As to the third basket of the negotiation process that refers to the region’s status and the political settlement, ex-member of the Joint Control Commission Ion Leahu said the sides should show will to initiate discussions on the subject. “We should examine the path to integration,” he stated, adding that the legislation on both sides of the Nistru provides particular solutions for politically settling the conflict.
