“We will run for the presidential elections in 2011 and we will win,” stated the leader of the Communist Party from the Transnistrian area (CPT), Oleg Horjan, at the second congress of the party, on October 25 in Tiraspol, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in the area reports.
In his report, Horjan pointed out that the polls give them 25 % of the votes. “The present power in Transnistria is failing itself and goes on failing the republic,” he said. “Hundreds and thousands of people are thrown beyond the subsistence line. In Transnistria’s villages the situation is worse that in WWII. The veterans in that war starve. There is a system to make people stupid working in Transnistria.”
According to the Transnistrian Communists, 4 years since the creation of the their party, they have staged a number of protests against the drop in the living standard. After the first meeting on March 13, 2007, in Tiraspol, Oleg Horjan was sentenced to 1 ½ years of conditional imprisonment. Horjan mentioned it was for the first time that representatives of the Security Ministry and of the Justice Ministry of the self-styled republic were attended their congress. Yevgeny Kopyshev, the deputy president of the Russian Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov, handed Horjan a Russian order called “Party Dignity”.
The congress’ adopted documents plan to raise two-fold the number of party members, and 1.5 times the number of primary cells. The circulation of their newspaper “Pravda Pridnestrovya” is said to be the third in the area.
The Transnistrian Communists are determined to stage protests not only in bigger towns in the area, but also in villages, asking the judiciary for the full rehabilitation of their leader. Unanimously, Oleg Horjan has been reelected as a leader of the party.
The same day, October 25, the Communists from the right bank of the Nistru marked their 15th anniversary.
