The public opinion in the Transnistrian region is indignant at the way in which the children from families affected by the recent floods are selected for going to health and holiday resorts in Moscow, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent informs. According to local residents, “the lists were drawn up in secret and many of the children whose houses have been indeed affected by flood waters remained in the disaster zone”. The request to publish the lists made by the editorial staff of the local newspaper “Profsoiuznyie Vesti” (“Trade Union News”) to the Transnistrian Education Ministry was turned down for the reason that this information “could provoke a negative reaction in the society”. According to the publication, 51% of the tickets to Moscow resorts have been distributed to children that earlier had tickets for Transnistrian camps, which were closed in connection with the floods. A number of 258 children from Transnistria and 10 teachers accompanying them now rest in Moscow resorts. They went to Moscow on the invitation of Mayor Iury Lujkov, who provided free tickets to the resorts and covered all the travel expenses for the children whose families and houses have been affected by floods.
