Transnistria population further dropping

As of early July, the population of the Transnistrian region was estimated at 511,300 people. Compared to last year, the number dropped by 4300 people, Info-Prim Neo learned from the official webpage of the region’s administration.
According to the region’s economic department, the natural decline of the population during the firsts six months reached 1384 people, as the number of deaths (3816) was higher than that of births (2432).
The main causes of deaths are coronary diseases, tumors and strokes.
The infant mortality rate under 1 year was 21 children. The main causes of death were complications in the perinatal period, birth anomalies, intoxication and traumas.
In the first half of the year, 979 people settled in the Transnistrian region and 1905 left it. According to the registries of the civil status offices, there were 1358 marriages, meaning a drop of 1.5%. Meanwhile, the number of divorces increased by 4.8% to 982.
In 1989, the Transnistrian region’s population was about 750,000 people. According to the latest census in November 2004, the region had only 555,500 inhabitants.
