The Transnistrian region does not want to organize events to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the start of the Transnistrian conflict together with Chisinau, Ion Solonenko, co-chairman of the Joint Control Commission on behalf of Moldova, has told Info-Prim Neo. He also said that the Commission only discussed this matter, but took no decision. “The Transnistrian side said it was a political challenge on the part of Moldova,” stated Ion Solonenko. He added that the next meeting of the Commission where this subject will be discussed will take place on March 1. “We hope the position will change until then,” said Ion Solonenko. On February 16, representatives of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Russia and Ukraine to the Joint Control Commission proposed to the authorities on all levels to hold joint commemorative events to mark the 20th anniversary of the tragic events of March 1992. On February 22, the call was reiterated by the Acting Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Jan Plešinger. A series of events will be held on March 2 to commemorate 20 years of the start of the armed conflict on the Nistru.
