The Moldovan Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure recalled in a press release that the project involves building of 120 kilometers of pipe and three gas distribution facilities, two in Chisinau and another one in Ungheni. Additionally, a control and dispatcher center in Ghidighici will undergo an equipment upgrade.

Minister Chiril Gaburici stated this project is very important in improving Moldova’s energy security and work to build it should start as soon as possible so that it is completed by the end of the year.

Transgaz CEO Ion Sterian said the Ungheni-Chisinau pipeline project will contribute to the sustainable development of Moldova’s economy, to the modernization of the energy infrastructure, and to the creation of a transparent and competitive energy market.

The Ungheni-Chisinau pipeline is the second and final segment of a project to connect Romania’s border city of Iași to Moldova’s capital Chisinau via Ungheni town. Transgaz has vowed to build the pipeline in under two years and to invest 93 million euros into the project.
