Green tourism in the Danube region of the Black Sea Basin will be developed ad promoted in the framework of a transfrontier project. The project “Development and Promotion of Green Tourism in the Danube Region of the Black Sea Basin (Cahul district, Republic of Moldova; Reni municipality, Ukraine, and Galați County, Romania)” is implemented by the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul” during December 2020 – June 2023. Its goals are to develop and promote transfrontier green tourism for the communities in the Black Sea Basin on the Galați-Cahul-Reni section of the Danube to obtain mutual socioeconomic benefits, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Institute.
“Viitorul” executive director Liubomir Chiriac, project manager, said the set goals and objectives are realistic. “We want to have economic activities of the tourism operators and many tourists in the Black Sea Basin,” stated Liubomir Chiriac.
The activities of the project center on the development of policies, creation and consolidation of a transfrontier tourism cluster between Cahul, Reni and Galați, which would stimulate the development of green tourism on the border, would increase the quality of tourism services and the number of tourists in the region and would improve the quality of life in the communities of the region.
Deputy head of the Cahul district Valentina Shevchenko said the project will help to realize the district’s tourism potential. “The tourist attractions in Cahul have an inestimable value and they should be developed and promoted,” she stated.
As part of the project, there will be designed a guide on transfrontier tourism with emphasis on ecological tourism; a map with three transfrontier routes; an informative brochure for tourists and a common program for developing transfrontier tourism in Cahul district, Reni municipality and Galați County.
Project coordinator Ana Znaceni said the Danube region of the Black Sea Basin has considerable tourism potential that can be developed, primarily eco-tourism. The development level of tourist infrastructure is reduced, but has growth potential. The project is an opportunity for stimulating and increasing cooperation between the authorities, tourist service providers and local communities in the three regions so as to develop and promote transfrontier tourism.
The transfrontier project is implemented by the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul” in partnership with the Cahul District Council (Moldova), the Executive Committee of the Reni Local Council (Ukraine) and the Lower Danube University of Galați (Romania). It forms part of the Joint Operational Program Black Sea Basin 2014-2020 and is co-financed by the European Union.
