The Party of Socialists (PSRM), which is a pro-Russian one, gathers together those who are not satisfied around it and will represent a brake in the evolution to the West of the Republic of Moldova, ex-President of Romania Traian Basescu, president of honor of the National Unity Party of Moldova (PUN), stated in the talk show “Important” on TVC21 channel, IPN reports.
According to the former President, Moldova has a large anti-European and anti-NATO party, which is the PSRM, and this is its bad luck. “I would say that this party is against the citizens of the Republic of Moldova because after 60 years during which the country formed part of the Soviet Union it was seen what a system managed by Moscow can give,” stated Traian Basescu.
As to the EU membership status, Traian Basescu said the Republic of Moldova will not be able to get this status during the next 20 years. “I know that it was categorically refused to give a European perspective not only to the Republic of Moldova, but also to Ukraine because this is the maximal border to which the European Union and NATO can extend to the East. Beyond this border, one cannot pass in times of peace,” he stated.
He also said that if a successful referendum was held or there was a decision on Romania’s union with the Republic of Moldova, taken by the legislative bodies of Chisinau and Bucharest based on what the population wants, this would not be challenged outside. The perspective of the union is closer than the perspective of European integration.
As to the anti-Chirtoaca referendum, PUN executive president Anatol Salaru in the same program said that Dorin Chirtoaca should answer before the law, not yet before Igor Dodon’s voters. “Dodon was lured into a trap here. By this referendum, he was given satisfaction. But it is now clear that the plebiscite will fail and this is the first stage when a serious blow is given to Dodon and it is the moment when he will start to fall in surveys as it will be shown that Dodon lost,” stated Anatol Salaru.
