Romania's Traian Basescu told a Romanian television that, in the 2005 elections, Vladimir Voronin, Moldova's acting president, had tricked all Europe with his pro-European discourses. President Basescu states he was not the only to back Voronin, in 2005, but “all Europe did so”, the Romanian publication “Adevarul” is quoted by Info-Prim Neo as writing. “I was not the only one to back Voronin. At that time, all Europe saw a Voronin having had an entire term linked to the European Union, a Voronin willing.... So, that was the atmosphere, the practical joke that Mister Voronin played on all the Europeans. And he was seen as a solution that would draw Moldova towards the European Union,” the Romanian president explains. Basescu commented that Voronin's second term, especially the post-election events from April, “made him show his true face.” “A Bolshevik setting the state institutions against their own people,” that's Traian Basescu's description of his Moldovan counterpart. Referring to the situation in Moldova after the July 29 poll, Basescu has said there is a chance that the democratic forces take the power in Chisinau, saying those four democratic parties will set up a coalition able to govern. Traian Basescu has reiterated Romania is Moldova's strongest supporter. “There is no sitting of the European Council at which we would not introduce at least a sentence about Moldova. It's a solid element of foreign policy, but we need a partner in Chisinau to support,” Basescu added.
