The President of Romania Traian Basescu expressed his concerns about the strength of the Alliance for European Integration that is ruling Moldova at a meeting with leaders of the Moldovan parliamentary groups on Wednesday evening. Neither Maria Postoiko, the head of the Communist parliamentary group, nor other representatives of the Communists attended the meeting, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the representatives of the four parliamentary groups that formed the Alliance – the PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN, Traian Basescu asked them if the ruling coalition is not exposed to the risk of dismemberment owing to the dissenting opinions on certain subjects that become more evident.
After the meeting, Vasile Balan, the leader of the parliamentary group of the AMN, told the reporters that the representatives of the four factions assured the Romanian head of state of the Alliance’s strength and provided enough arguments in this respect. “These four parties, even if they disagree over certain issue, bear responsibility for the government of Moldova and the country’s future depends on the ruling collation’s effectiveness,” Vasile Balan said.
The head of the Liberal faction Ion Hadarca said that Traian Bssescu as well as other high-ranking European officials encouraged the preservation of the Alliance as it is a force that can bring changes in Moldova.
The Romanian President and the leaders of the parliamentary groups discussed the opportunity of modifying the Constitution of Moldova. According to Ion Hadarca, Traian Basescu advised avoiding situations that could lead to the creation of a legislative vacuum. The Moldovan MPs replied that all the decisions that will be taken will be first examined by European institutions. Basescu suggested that a new election campaign is not desirable.
“The people realize that we should have elections in order to clarify the situation,” said the president of honor of the PDM Dumitru Diacov. He added that he does not fully agree with the assertions made by Basescu, who does not want to sign a Border Treaty with Moldova. “Such statements fuel the Anti-Romania extremists in Moldova. Mister Basescu said he is not against a document that would solve the legal problem, but is against terms. We consider that the essence of the problem not certain notions are important,” Diacov said.
Deputy Head of Parliament Iurie Tap, who is a member of the PLDM, said Basescu’s visit to Chisinau is full of hopes and will end with palpable results.
Dumitru Diacov spoke about a new stage in the Moldovan-Romanian relations. “The relations between our countries saw nice stages, but few deeds. I hope that now, we and the official Bucharest moved to a new stage as we realized we do not need nice statements, but concrete steps,” Diacov said.
