The figure of presumed trafficking in men cases increased 12-fold, and that of trafficking in women increased 3-fold. This is the conclusion drawn public at a press conference organized on Wednesday at the International Center for the Protection of Women Rights “La Strada”, which presented the results of the social campaign “I care too…”. In those 210 campaign’s days the experts of the Center asserted an increase of SOS appeals at the hot line 0-800-77777, from 379 to 695 cases. The campaign has identified some new tendencies, including increase of cases when men and minors are trafficked. In a part of the cases the parents acknowledge that fact that their children will be exploited, as beggars for example. Also the cases when traffickers registered minors as their own children increased. At the same time the campaign shows that the number of persons who solicit assistance several years after being trafficked also has increased. As well the methods of selecting potential victims were changed. In the case of women, urgent and secret leave arrangements are practiced and in the case of men – travels in big groups, being disposed of their passports. The main destination countries are Russia, Turkey and Italy. The campaign was supported by a series of international organizations, including ICCO, the International Migration Organization Office in Moldova, OSCE, and European Commission.
