A 34-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after promising 20-year-old girls jobs in Dubai, but taking them to Northern Cyprus instead and depriving them of their passports, IPN reports.

"Every day, they had 7-8 clients, some of them abusing the girls without the administration’s intervention. They worked 24 hours a day, also dancing in clubs. The victims were not allowed to leave the premises,” states a press release of the Prosecutor General's Office, which also says that the reason for not being allowed to return to Moldova was a debt of several thousand euros that the victims allegedly accumulated.

According to the quoted source, the offences date back to 2015, the two girls being promised salaries of 10,000 euros a month. One of the young girls received 9000 euros after 6 months, while he second returned to Chisinau without any money, the amount earned being directed to cover the invented debt”, says the press release.

In addition to the sentence of 10-year imprisonment, the Chisinau Court of Appeal ordered the defendant to pay to each of the girls the amount of 50,000 lei for moral damages.

Previously, the man had been also convicted for robbery and organizing illegal migration, the General Prosecutor's Office press release specified.
