A traffic police officer is investigated for bribe taking. Anticorruption officers arrested him in the act of taking €100 from a man caught earlier driving under the influence, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime.
According to the denouncer, the police officer asked for €500 from him for giving back his driver’s license and not taking legal action over DUI. The money marked ‘bribe’ was transmitted under the control of anticorruption officers.
The officer is now held at the remand unit of the Center. A legal case over passive corruption was opened against him.
Twelve police officers suspected of committing different corruption acts have been arrested so far this year. Last year, the Center started 55 legal cases over employees of the Ministry of the Interior.
