Traffic Police conducting Operation Motorcyclist

During May 9-18, the Traffic Police are conducting a special operation going under the codename the Motorcyclist. The decision was determined by an increase in the number of road accidents involving motorcycles, Road Safety Inspector of the Chisinau Traffic Police, Ion Roscovanu, told Info-Prim Neo. According to him, traffic officers are to pay increased attention to the technical condition of such vehicles and will insist on the necessity of wearing crash helmets by both drivers and passengers. In addition, a requirement will be to register motor scooters with the engine capacity under 50 cm3, which hasn't been mandatory until now. From the beginning of the year there were recorded 282 traffic accidents on Chisinau roads, claiming 18 lives, and injuring 329 persons.
