The traffic lights installed on the street of capitals downtown will be set dependant on the traffic flow in order to avoid traffic jams. A request in this regard was made Monday, February 19, during the City Hall session, by the interim mayor Veaceslav Iordan. As well, Transport and Road Division, together with municipal road police will check the correctness of indicators and road signs positioning. According to Iordan, there are indicators in capital installed in 1976, which are nothing else but “antiques”. The Transport and Road Division manages approximately 10 thousand road signs, were more than 770 of them are made up of metal. The Division says they are stolen for crap iron, specifying that in most of the cases the offenders are not traced. Alexei Varlan, interim chief of Transport and Road Division said that the local budget for this year plans 1.5 mln lei for reconstructing the traffic lights. During the previous year traffic lights were installed on Coca, Vasile Lupu and Burebista streets. According to Varlan, this year the crosswalks will be lightened, for excluding pedestrian accidents. As stated by the capital’s administration, currently the city’s public lights are only 20% functional. According to the Transport and Road Division, public illumination is almost achieved in the neighbourhoods of the downtown district. By the end of the month, works will be operated in Ciocana and Buiucani districts. During the current year it is planned to reconstruct public illumination networks on 9 boulevards and streets including Gagarin, Decebal and Negruzzi boulevards and on Vadul lui Voda, Bacioii Noi and Mesterul Manole streets.
