The traditions and culture of Maramures are the theme of an exhibition opened in Chisinau on the occasion of the National Day of Romania. The exhibit includes the most valuable objects and works of the Maramures art - traditional glass icons, gastronomic products, cabbage rolls, bread baked in the oven, sausages, traditional costumes, carpets woven by hand and dyed with natural paints. The event was organized by the Tourism Information and Promotion Office of Romania in Moldova, which is the representative office of the Romanian Ministry of Tourism in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Office's head Mariana Iuga said the institution aimed to promote Romania's tourist industry, with emphasis on Maramures. “The Christmas holidays are coming. The holidays in Maramures are very beautiful. We wanted to bring the culture of Maramures to Chisinau and thus invited craftsmen from Maramures, the folk group Magura-Cernesti and the famous Petreusi Brothers,” Mariana Iuga said. “Maramures is a very picturesque zone. The people there observe the traditions and continue to weave and bake bread in the oven. They kept that rustic style that we often miss so much and that can be found nowhere else,” Mariana Iuga said. Attending the opening of the exhibition, Moldova's Caretaker President Mihai Ghimpu said the exhibition is another proof that we speak the same language. He said Maramurs is one of the prettiest and most interesting places to visit. “The tourist life is the most wonderful life. Maramures is the most wonderful tourist region.” Georgeta Maria Iuga, painter of glass icons, said she displayed 48 works made by her at the exhibit. “The glass icon brings God's light in our souls and homes. It is what I needed. The glass icon is for the people's homes, while the wooden icon is for God's home,” she said. There are more than 100 wooden monasteries and churches in Maramures. Many of them are protected by UNESCO. There are also many health spas in Maramures. The Tourism Information and Promotion Office of Romania held such an event for the first time. It was organized as part of the Evening of the Romanians Everywhere.
