Traditional Solidarity March to be held in Chisinau on Press Freedom Days

Press Freedom Days will start in Chisinau Tuesday, May 6, with a news conference by media NGOs, followed by a series of thematic conferences and press club meetings. The events will culminate with a traditional Journalists’ Solidarity March, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The opening news conference of the Press Freedom Days will be held in Info-Prim Neo’s conference room (9/9 Sfatul Tarii Street), at 10:00. Another news conference will follow on May 7 at 12:00, at which the Electronic Press Association APEL will present the results of monitoring the observance of the Broadcasting Code, in particular, the content of newscasts on Teleradio-Moldova and, in premiere, newscasts on Teleradio-Gagauzia.
Also on May 7, Acess-Info Center will hold a conference themed “Access to Official Information” inside the Government Cafeteria at 10:00. The Independent Press Association (API) will organize on the same day in the city of Cahul a workshop themed “Press as a business: legal gaps and solutions”. The event will be attended by editors.
The launch of the project called “Journalists against Corruption” is scheduled for May 8, 10:00. The event is organized by the Investigative Journalism Center (CIN).
A solidarity march of journalists meant to raise awareness among the general public of recurrent violations of the right to information, to freedom of expression, of economic, political and social pressure put by the authorities on the mass media will take place on May 8 starting 11:00. According to the organizers, the march will start from the Press House, will go past the Government building and stop at the Stefan cel Mare Public Garden, where a meeting will be held until 14:00.
World Press Freedom Day is observed annually on May 3.
