Trade unions point to considerable rises in food prices in Transnistria

The Transnistrian trade unions say that the prices of the basic food products and the value of the minimum consumer basket have considerably increased, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in the region reports.
According to the latest information provided by the department for social-economic protection of the Trade Union Federation of Transnistria, the minimum subsistence level in the region is 857 Transnistrian rubles (about 1,000 lei), an increase of 37% year on year.
At the same time, the prices of the basic food products continue to rise. Compared with the corresponding period last year, sunflower grew dearer by 80%, eggs by 40%, sausages by 55%, bread and pasta by 50%, milk and dairy products by 37%. Meat prices went up twofold, while the price of rice – threefold.
A subsistence minimum represents the value of the minimum consumption of goods and services needed to satisfy basic demands: provision of health maintenance and human’s viability support.
The minimum subsistence level is an indicator of the minimum value and of the structure of the consumption of goods and services needed for the protection of health and maintaining the vital activity.
The salary arrears in Transnistria total about 11 million Transnistrian rubles (approximately 13 million lei).
