Trade unions of “Moldova’s Railways” announce protests

The salary-earners who are members of trade unions of the state-run company “Moldova’s Railways” will mount a protest on March 11. They will demand that the salary arrears should be settled by March 31 this year and that compensations should be provided for the delay in paying salaries.

Chairman of the Federation of Railway Workers Trade Unions Ion Zaporojan said the salary arrears exceed 130 million lei, while the fate of the about 9,800 employees of the company remains uncertain.

Among other demands are to restore the working program of 40 hours a week by annulling the technical unemployment for the day of Friday of each working week and by raising the pays in connection with the increase in the tariffs of public utilities, the prices of consumer goods and the depreciation of the national currency, IPN reports.

The column of protesters will set off from the Railway Terminal of Chisinau and will stop in front of the Government Building.

During several months last year, the employees of the state-run company “Moldova’s Railways” demanded that their pay rights should be respected by protesting at the workplace and in front of public institutions.
