A 28-year-old man was sentenced to five years in jail for striking two young persons in Ștefan Vodă district with his tractor. As a result, one of the victims died, while the other one remained confined to bed. The driver not only left the place of the accident, but tried to mislead the police, saying that the accident was unintentionally committed by his father, who assumed blame instead of his son, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, a woman aged 19 died, while a 22-year-old man remained confined to bed after the tractor driver tried to start the vehicles and accidentally hit the motorcycle by which the two were travelling. It happened on a street in Copceac village of Ștefan Vodă district.
The culprit was extradited to Moldova from an EU member state and remanded in custody.
The sentenced passed by the Ștefan Vodă Court on June 15 can be challenged in the Chisinau Appeals Court within 15 days.
