Tottenham beat Sheriff 2-0 in Tiraspol. After the match, Tottenham coach Andre Villas-Boas said Sheriff didn’t deserve to lose, IPN reports.

“Sheriff surprised me. A draw would have been fairer. They played very dangerously in counterattack and had more occasions for scoring. They were to score when one player remained face to face with the goalkeeper,” said Andre Villas-Boas, who two years ago won the UEFA Europa League with FC Porto.

Sheriff’s Luvannor missed most of the chances of scoring goals. Cadu and Isa were also close to scoring.

The goals for Tottenham were scored by Vertonghen (12th minute) and Defoe (75th minute). Moldovans Valentin Furdui and Vadim Paireli made their debut for Sheriff in Europa League. They entered the field towards the end of the game.

Sheriff suffered the first defeat in Europa League. After three stages played, Tottenham has 9 points, with 5 more than Anji. Sheriff is third with two points. Yesterday evening Anji beat Tromso 1-0. Moldova’s Alexandru Epureanu didn’t play for Anji as he hasn’t yet recovered after suffering injury.

In the next stage, on November 7, Sheriff meets Tottenham in London, while Tromso will play host to Anji.
