A total lunar eclipse will occur on Friday, March 14. The first part of the phenomenon will also be visible on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. When the Earth is in a straight line between the Sun and the Moon, the so-called "blood moon" will appear in the sky.

The eclipse will last more than three and a half hours, and the "blood moon" phase is when the Moon turns intensely red, when the eclipse reaches totality.

Those who wish to watch the eclipse are urged to do so in a place away from urban light pollution and to also use binoculars or a telescope.

The last time this phenomenon was visible on the territory of the Republic of Moldova was on June 15, 2011.

The next similar astronomical event is expected to occur this autumn, on September 7.
