Two houses in Cahul town were demolished and a number of cellars were flooded following the torrential rain of the last two days. Rescuers cleaned a drainage channel in order to prevent the rainwater from flooding homes. Several teams pumped water out of the basement of the surgery block of the Cahul District Hospital, IPN reports.

According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, works to remove the water from cellars were performed also in the villages Rosu and Tartaul de Salcie. In the last village, the rain damaged 8 km of road. A levee of 200 sacks was built in Rosu. More than 400 sacks of sand were put up in the Gagauz village Svetlyi to protect 20 houses from flood waters. In the same village, the firefighters and rescuers pumped water out of about 17 houses.

Water from the basements was also removed in Ceadir-Lunga town and in Chiriet-Lunga and Cazaclia villages. Rescuers helped unblock 20 units of transport that got stuck in the mud as a result of the rain.

The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service urges taking into account authorities’ recommendations and calling 901 when the help of rescuers and firefighters is needed.

According to the State Hydrometeorology Service, the yellow code advisory for rain and wind applies to September 14 and September 15 too.
