By 15 tonnes of solid waste, such as food, glass, paper and plastic, daily get to the Chisinau wastewater treatment station. “Apă-Canal Chișinău” warns that the situation can turn dramatic if this waste reaches clarifiers as the pumps can become blocked or even get broken, IPN reports.

By the centralized sewerage network, not only wastewater, but also tonnes of waste can reach manholes. This happens because some of the consumers mix up the sewer with a garbage bin. The supplier warns that the network can get clogged, primarily due to large waste, such as building materials.

To avoid the blocking of the network and to ensure the proper functioning of the wastewater treatment station, specialists of “Apă-Canal Chisinau” periodically clean the manholes and sewers, extracting PET packing, plastic and hygiene products out of these.

The supplier calls on the population to be response, to protect the environment and to avoid throwing waste in the public sewerage system, including in toilets.
