Tolerance ensures success of school inclusion, NGO

The good performance at school, diminution of the effects of institutionalization, development and strengthening of personal dignity are only some of the results achieved in including the deinstitutionalized children in schools. According to a communiqué from the public association Lumos Foundation Moldova, the success of social inclusion is ensured by tolerance, Info-Prim Neo reports. Most of the 154 children who have left the residential institutions working in Marculesti, Ialoveni, and in the municipality of Chisinau consider that they adapted themselves well and very weal to the environment in general schools. The teachers, school psychologists, parents and classmates of this children share this opinion. “The deinstitutionalized children made important progress during a year of their integration into the schools in their settlements. Inclusive education allows raising generations that are able to realize their potential and to maintain the spirit of human solidarity,” said project manager of Lumos Foundation Moldova Galina Bulat. Lumos Foundation Moldova recommends the general education institutions to maintain a positive atmosphere by continuously supporting the interdependence and independence of the children. The encouragement of good practices for assisting children with special educational needs and the dissemination of the experience in the field will help improve the quality of social inclusion. The district general education divisions are advised to monitor and promote inclusive education in the local schools, contributing thus to the implementation of the inclusive education development program for 2011-2020. The local public authorities of the first and second levels are urged to diversify and extend the network of community services intended for children and families in difficulty. The International Day for Tolerance has been marked since 1986, after UNESCO representatives adopted the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance in a meeting in Paris.
