The rule of law is subject to real and not imaginary dangers as the mafia groups begin to finance their activities and actions to ensure widespread destabilization in Moldova with the help of foreign powers, Igor Munteanu, chairman of the Coalition for Unity and Wellbeing (CUB), which is a member of the “Together” Bloc, stated in a press conference hosted by IPN.
According to Igor Munteanu, the “successes” of the organized criminal group’s actions are due to the lack of success in recovering money stolen within the bank fraud and to the maintenance of sources of illicit gaining in particular companies that are directly controlled by the character who is currently preparing destabilization actions. Although he was sentenced to 15 years in jail in the Republic of Moldova and was banned entry into the Russian Federation and even had criminal cases initiated against him on money laundering and various economic crimes, in 2023 this character was pardoned and began in some way to be used for actions that could lead to destabilization in the Republic of Moldova.
Igor Munteanu noted that the Shor group is a kind of Wagner group for the Republic of Moldova because, as in the case of Yevgeny Prigozhin, who fought against Ukraine, Ilan Shor is used as cannon fodder for geopolitical purposes by the Russian Federation. The state must take much more radical measures. All those who are politically or financially associated today with Ilan Shor are potential criminals and must be charged with high treason.
The “Together” Bloc calls on the Moldovan authorities to implicitly accuse the persons who participated in the Moscow meeting and to communicate as soon as possible the status of criminal investigations and the made charges for the purpose of protecting the constitutional order.
The CUB chairman also said that the financial situation of the Shor group is directly proportional to the level of recovery of the money stolen in 2014-2015 and the lack of progress in recovering the stolen funds is an argument that pushes this unconstitutional group to take action.
According to Igor Munteanu, the parties affiliated to the Shor group can be qualified as harmful to public order and must be persecuted according to the Criminal Code as components of an organized criminal group.
The politician suggests that the state should immediately proceed to suspend the groups affiliated to Shor politically for a period of at least 12 months so that it can bring its statutes, actions and accounts in compliance with the legal norms of the Republic of Moldova. He also believes that the state must withdraw the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova from persons with dual citizenship. Likewise, the article on treason can be applied.
In the same vein, Igor Munteanu called on all the healthy political forces in the Republic of Moldova to sign the “Pact for Europe”, which, according to him, is an extremely important binder launched by the bloc for everyone to be part of a process of accelerated joining of the European Union by Moldova.
Ștefan Gligor, chairman of the Party of Change, a member of the “Together: Bloc, added that the “Pact for Europe” or the pact for European integration is one of those initiatives that can demonstrate the collision and show the face of the civic political forces in Moldova.
