The new Government of Moldova that is to be invested must base its government program on the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU. If such a program is supported by a parliamentary majority, the EU will continue to regard Moldova as a predictable partner, said Titus Corlatean, former minister of foreign affairs of Romania and current honorific adviser to the Romanian Premier on relations with Moldova, IPN reports.

“The Republic of Moldova, as a state, no matter who is in power, negotiated and signed a very important accord – the Association Agreement with the EU, which includes the Free Trade Agreement. It represents 75% of the Community acquis and is the basis for ensuring the functioning of a society according to the European model. Any government of Moldova must honor its international commitments. The accord must be implemented, especially because it is beneficial from economic and social viewpoints. It is in Moldova’s interests to put this agreement into practice and the country can count on Romania’s support in this respect,” the official stated for Moldovan journalists who took part in an event in Bucharest.

Titus Corlatean noted that we should wait for the new Government to be invested. “It is an important political step. The government program should focus on the implementation of this accord. If such a political program and the composition of the Cabinet are voted, the EU will continue to have a predictable partner and we will cooperate very well. I hope that the system can work, but more political energy is needed,” he stated.

The consultations for designating a candidate for premiership, held by Moldova’s President, restart on January 27. The agreement on the creation of the Political Alliance for the European Moldova provides that the post of Prime Minister will be occupied by a representative of the Liberal Democratic Party. This party informed that their candidate for this post is Iurie Leanca.
