The {de facto} authorities of Transnistria promise to soon solve the issue with the rail transit across their territory, and expect a similar attitude from Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. Transnistria's self-styled foreign minister Vladimir Yastrebchak told the region's official news agency Olvia Press that the Transnistrian authorities have already identified solutions to the technical aspect of the issue, and are now waiting for Chisinau to take steps for a final settlement of the problem. “I think our partners (in Chisinau) will make efforts to remove some obstacles which remain, so that the reached agreements exist not only on paper but are also put into practice”, said Yastrebchak. In 2006, the {de facto} authorities of Transnistria banned the transit of Moldovan trains across the region in response to what it called an “economic blockade” by the authorities in Chisinau. On 1 October 2010 an agreement was reached to unblock passage for the trains on the routes Chisinau-Odessa and Chisinau-Moscow. Efforts are now made to secure full rail transit via Transnistria, including of freight trains.
