The administration of the separatist region of Transnistria is not interested in serious talks with the official Chisinau and thus these remain stagnant. The issue was developed in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Gheorghe Balan said the Transnistrian side accepts only negotiations on insignificant matters. “The 5+2 format of the talks was created for identifying solutions for overcoming the crisis in the region. Regrettably, the Transnistrian side is not interested in this. They accept to negotiate only minor issues such as the schedule of a train,” he stated.
Gheorghe Balan also said that Chisinau is for the withdrawal of the Russian troops from Transnistria. “We do not accept military drills and other similar exercises on the left side of the Nistru,” he noted.
Victor Chirila, executive director of the Foreign Policy Association, considers Chisinau does not have now chances to obtain the withdrawal of the Russian military contingent from Transnistria. “I don’t think Russia will withdraw its troops from the left side of the Nistru now that there are confrontations between the East and the West,” he said.
