Hospitals in Tiraspol have turned their heating systems on the economy mode as gas supplies in the Transnistrian region remain scarce. Though the temperature inside the medical establishments have dropped below 11 degrees Celsius, they will not be closed, Info-Prim Neo's field correspondent reports.
The authorities in Tiraspol announced that electrical heaters have been distributed among the hospitals in the region. Gas is burned to provide heat only to the hospitals in Rybnitsa and Kamenka, as well as the orphanage and the Mother & Child Center in Tiraspol. Other institutions are heated using electricity. Extra money is allocated to purchase fuels, coal and wood.
In recent days the number of emergency calls and hospital admissions has risen. Authorities said increased attention in this period will be paid to the retirees, invalids and other people needing constant care. Roughly 2,300 people will be visited at home each day, said Ivan Tcacenko, Transnistria's health & social protection minister .
According to him, homeless persons will be placed in heated hostels and will be provided with blankets and clothing.
