The Transnistrian authorities plan to put into practice a medical insurance system. Local experts anticipate that the preparations will last for several years, but without this reform, the medical system of the region will not be able to develop, IPN reports.

According to “Novyi Region” Agency, representatives of the Transnistrian administration said the switchover to a medical insurance system is determined not only by the financial aspect, though half of the costs for medicine are now covered with money from the region’s budget. The rest represent services provided for money. A priority is to offer services of a high quality to patients that will be achieved by ensuring competition between the medical institutions.

Vladimir Bercovici, director of the Union of Industrialists, Farmers and Entrepreneurs of Transnistria, considers that the medical insurance system must influence the salaries of doctors, which should depend directly on the number of calls made by patients. “If we have an insurance policy, but the current system is kept, we will achieve no result,” he stated.

Specialists consider that in order to implement the medical insurance system, the medical institutions should be outfitted with modern equipment, while the doctors should attend refresher courses.
