The Transnistrian administration insists that the Eurasian integration is the national idea of Transnistria, which is supported by the population from the left side of the Nistru and was confirmed in a referendum in 2006. Such an answer was given to a Russian publication which wanted to find out aspects of the region’s economy following the steps taken by Moldova to create the Free Trade Area with the EU. The Transnistrian administration said they do not have representatives working on the group of experts that examine aspects of the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and the EU, IPN reports.

According to a press statement issued by the self-styled foreign affairs minister of Transnistria, Tiraspol didn’t delegate representatives to work on the group of experts created by the Ministry of Economy of Moldova, while the Free Trade Agreement with the EU was signed without taking into account the interests of the region’s economic entities. Tiraspol wants to keep the special trade regime with the EU, especially for the companies that have exported goods to the EU since 2006.

However, the Transnistrian region aims to become integrated into the Eurasian Customs Union and signed a number of agreements with Russia so as to be able to export its products to this country. A Russian phytosanitary and veterinary certification center is to be soon opened in Transnistria.
