Tiraspol election commission chairman: If we participate in parliamentary elections in Moldova, we automatically recognize that Transnistria doesn’t exist

The Central Election Commission (CEC) from Tiraspol has not yet received Chisinau's request for opening polling stations in the Transnistrian region for the parliamentary elections of April 5. Petru Denisenko, the chairman of the commission has told Info-Prim Neo's correspondent. According to him, the Moldovan authorities have never ensured the suffrage of the Transnistrian citizens. “In order to open polling stations in Transnistria, the Moldovan leadership must make an official notification. The decision will be made in Tiraspol, by the legislative and executive branches,” Denisenko said. “Participating in the parliamentary elections in Moldova in other conditions, we automatically recognize that Transnistria doesn’t exist,” the Tiraspol CEC chairman said. The correspondent of Info-Prim Neo also reports that the Transnistrian public organizations urge people to boycott the parliamentary elections from Moldova. Valerian Tulgara, a deputy in the Transnistrian legislature, the president of the Union of Moldovans from Transnistria, previously called Chisinau’s intention to open polling stations in Transnistria as a provocation. He believes these declarations are made only to increase the rating of the Communists Party from Chisinau on the eve of elections, writes the supplement Obiectiv, published by the Independent Press Association. “We have no chance to open polling stations in the Transnistrian region now. They will probably be opened along the right bank of the Nistru to offer the Moldovan citizens living on the left bank the chance to fulfill their right to vote. We will assess the number of them as soon as possible,” the Moldovan CEC secretary Iurie Ciocan commented on Tuesday, February 3, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Ciocan added that 10 polling stations of this kind were opened at the parliamentary elections of 2005.
