The Tiraspol City Council has issued an ordinance meant to step up security measures in all the entertainment establishments in the city, Info-Prim Neo’s special correspondent in Transnistria reports. The Council’s decision came in the wake of higher crime rates in nightspots, bars and restaurants, mainly due to drunken customers. Local police have reported at least 20 offences, including two killings, committed in Tiraspol’s entertainment establishments since the beginning of the year. Under the Tiraspol Council’s ordinance, entertainment establishments, especially those working late at night, shall be equipped with alarm buttons and video surveillance systems. The closing hours for the businesses that fail to obey the new rules will be set at 22:00. Late-night customers must be checked by doormen. A nigh patrol consisting of police officers and civilian volunteers will perform regular raids. If customers start fighting or make use of firearms, bar owners shall call the police.
