The constitutional authorities said that Tiraspol blocks the conduct of the population and housing census from April 8 to July 7 in Corjova commune and other localities in Dubasari district, IPN reports.

The Bureau for Reintegration Policies noted that, at the request of the National Bureau of Statistics, the coordination of aspects related to the facilitation of access and obtaining of security guarantees for the personnel involved in taking the census in localities that are not effectively controlled by the constitutional authorities was ensured through the Chisinau-Tiraspol interaction channels. Coordination was necessary in order to avoid incidents and crisis situations at the local level given that the responsible national authorities are unable to ensure prompt security measures and maintain public order in the perimeter beyond the illegal infrastructure of Tiraspol’s checkpoints.

Unfortunately, both the key negotiator of Tiraspol and Tiraspol’s delegation to the Joint Control Commission informed about the categorical refusal to ensure access and provide security guarantees. They also described Chisinau’s initiative as provocative and excessively politicized it, insisting on refraining from this process in areas that are potential hotbeds of tensions. “These reactions once again show that Tiraspol continues to maintain artificial barriers between the two banks of the Nistru and the permanent confrontation with the official Chisinau,” reads a press release of the Bureau.
