A study carried out by Promo-Lex Association shows that 2,968 persons had been arrested by the Transnistrian administration by January 1, 2011. In the given context, the members of the Association approve of the steps taken by the Moldovan constitutional authorities to set free the mayor and a councilor of Corjova village, who were arrested by the authorities of the breakaway republic. However, they demand that the Moldovan administration take measures to release the two political prisoners Ernest Vardanyan and Ilie Cazac, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the NGO. “Though it is a hardly achievable desideratum, with the constitutional authorities making consistent effort, the victims of the illegitimate Transnistrian regime can benefit from the guarantees provided by the national legislation and the international conventions signed by Moldova. It is very important that the steps taken by the constitutional authorities are not reduced to statements and calls only,” it is said in the communiqué. The official Chisinau should not forget about other numerous similar cases of abuse and kidnapping committed in the Transnistrian region that remain unsolved, Promo-Lex warns.
