The association of war veterans Tiras-Tighina threatens to sue the Moldovan Government, if it delays allocating 40,000 euros to buy prostheses for two war disabled, Info-Prim Neo reports. Valeriu Ciobanu, the secretary of the association, told a news conference Monday that the Government is unable to solve the problems of the veterans of the Nistru military conflict who live below the poverty line, having miserable pensions. “They had the hope to receive the necessary assistance from the state, but they have faced obvious discrimination,” Ciobanu says. Pavel Berzanu, one of the two disabled, says he cannot suffer to wear the Moldovan prostheses, because they hurt him. He says he needs 22,000 euros to buy prostheses from a Romanian company and incur hospital related costs. The invalids insist to get prostheses from Romania, although the Government and the Chisinau Municipal Council recommended them to accept the services of the Moldovan Rehabilitation Center. “Two hypocrites, an Oatu from the Rehabilitation Center (Vasile Oatu, chief manager of the Rehabilitation Center — e.n.) and the chairman of the Chisinau Municipal Center (Eduard Musuc – e.n.), dare to go on television and say the Center can make very good prostheses, but actually it launders money,” Tiras Tighina's chairman Anatol Caraman had stated earlier at a protest action. “The disabled Pavel Berzan has his legs amputated twice after using prostheses made by famous Oatu.” Pavel Berzan, aged 42, and Grigore Barcaru, 32, have repeatedly addressed the central and local authorities to help them in getting prostheses. Pavel Berzan was injured in the 1992 war as he was neutralizing bombs near Cosnita village. Grigore Barcaru was only 15, when he was hit by a mine. He has a disabled child, who stays in bed because of paralysis and gets a pension of 142 lei.
